2021 A Season To Remember As AIM Weekend Walleye Series Begins Gearing Up For Even Better 2022 Events


From a delayed and doubled-up 2020 season, the AIM Weekend Walleye Series rebounded into a renewed, streamlined and highly successful 2021, and now AIM is already looking forward and planning for an even better 2022 when teams again take to the water this spring across Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota.

“We’re pleased to share some stats with teams and you, Fan Nation, who both put it all on the line at 17 events this year in three states,” said Denny Fox, AIM national tournament director.  

“You really can’t say enough about the quality of entrants in our exclusive Catch-Record-Release™ tournaments. The support from all our outstanding sponsors that help us put these events on, with that bonus of incentive rewards for using those products. Without that support, there would be no resource-saving AIM tournaments for all of us to enjoy. The communities that hosted us, the variety of water that we challenged those teams with and the quality of our fans who tune into our Facebook page for each event just can’t be matched.

“It is an absolute blast to be a part of this, and we’re all looking forward to see what we, and they, can do in 2022,” Fox added.

“We’ll be updating you all on the upcoming season soon so both teams and fans can get ready to follow all the action from when the snow flies in spring, to that first hint of fall in late August. We’ll be announcing those in the coming days. Stay tuned.”

Let’s first recap last season to get you fired up for 2022.

Beginning in late March through late August, AIM teams took home more than $422,000 in cash and prizes, making the AWWS series THE most lucrative affordable tournament in all of walleye fishing.  Bar none.

The AIM series is designed so everyday “workaday” anglers with a wish to test their skills against themselves and others can do so over a long weekend or by taking a few vacation days. AIM events take place on inland lakes, rivers, dam impoundments and the Great Lakes, so everyone has a chance to show what they can do.

“Our philosophy is to give everyone a chance to be on our podium, cash a check, and gain the recognition that winning, placing or showing in a major tournament like AIM brings. That’s why we always love to see newcomers. Once you dip a toe in, you’re hooked. Our events give all anglers the opportunity to shine,” Fox explained.

All those qualifier tournaments culminate in the annual AIM National Championship Shootout, where the top prize is that new Warrior 1898 DC with a 150 four-stroke Yamaha on the transom and Garmin electronics on the dash, all worth more than $50,000.  

In 2021, AIM events gathered 1,068 tournament entries across those events, from qualifiers to each two-day championship round. At each location, these teams collectively spent tens of thousands of dollars in fuel, lodging, food and lures at local stations, motels and resorts, restaurants and bait shops, boosting the local economy while also drawing attention to each river, lake or port visited as a potential spot to visit by angling families or friends.

Entering and winning an AIM event is within the reach of anyone. That was proven time and again by first-time entrants this season. AIM is ready to welcome you aboard in 2022, from when the snow is flying in March, and the walleyes are spawning yet another year-class of fish, to the late-summer sun of August.
