Fox River Lures and Rods Joins Sponsor Team
For The 2018 AIM Weekend Walleye Series
There IS a difference between a quality fishing rod, and—let’s call them what they are—a cheap fishing rod. It can make the difference between standing on the podium at a 2018 AIM Weekend Walleye Series event, and going home without even feeling a fish tickle your lure. Fox River Lures and Rods, the newest AIM sponsor, is one rod maker that can make that difference.
“Our list of sponsors continues to grow as more and more in the sport of fishing recognize the value of AIM’s Catch-Record-Release™ fish-saving format, and Fox River Lures and Rods is the latest,” said Denny Fox, AIM National Tournament Director. “We’re excited to have them aboard.”
The anglers launching out of the Metro Boat Launch on the Fox River at Green Bay, Wisconsin know that the early season jig bite requires a rod that will let you tell every bottom bump, rock tick, even weed rub, below you, from that little wiggle/twang vibration that telegraphs “fish” to your hands. Use an inexpensive rod, and you may never feel it. Fox River Lures and Rods owner Chuck DiVito says that the way his rods are constructed helps you feel that difference and set the hook.
Last season’s Wisconsin Team of the Year winners know. Jeff Nuechterlein and Ryan Foster won cranking on DiVito’s creations, and are two of Fox River Lures and Rods deep pro staff.
DiVito began hand-making musky lures, and moved to building nearly a dozen different walleye and bass rods. He uses high-modulus 30+ton graphite, for a good balance between durability and sensitivity at a reasonable price point.
It’s all about weight, too. When you’re casting or jigging all day, a tiny difference goes a long way. His semi-custom rods use one-piece stamped guides that weigh 20 to 30 percent less than ceramic guides. Larger guide diameter also reduces friction. All that increases the sensitivity you need to feel what’s happening below you. His rods range from 6-1/2 feet for spinning, to 7-feet-10 for trolling.
