Here We Go: Rest of Teams Entered In AIM’S National Championship Shootout Have Their Say, With Badgers First

With the AIM Weekend Walleye Series National Championship in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin looming just seven wakeups away, we’re asking the teams we haven’t yet about their experience so far, thoughts on what’s coming, and just what they like about fishing for a fully rigged $100,000 Warrior boat combo, besides fishing for a fully rigged $100,000 Warrior boat combo.

“Last week, we picked up that beautiful Warrior V193, with a beautiful Yamaha 200 SHO four-stroke at the transom, Garmin electronics at the helm and the bow, with also at the bow, a beautiful Garmin Force troller, all powered by Odyssey Batteries the newest sponsor with AWWS and yup, gotta say it, a set of beautiful Rosemore rods in the locker,” said Denny Fox, AIM national tournament director.

“And it’ll be sitting dockside at The Island Bar and Grill in Fort Atkinson during the Ruckus On The River/Klash At Koshkanong. The Bait Box, the choice to go for bait and tackle here, along with The Island Bar and Grill, are the official site sponsors for this baby, are ready to show our teams a great time. The 30 teams entered will be allowed on the water as of Monday, Memorial Day, to pre-fish their behinds off. Someone’s gonna win one of the biggest prizes in walleye fishing,” Fox added.

But now let’s see what the teams we haven’t talked to yet think about this opportunity they worked so hard to get, starting with the host state, Wisconsin.

Marcel Cardinal and Russ Ory of Fremont will be out there come Monday morning to hunt for the ones that will win it all in their 350 Merc Verado-powered platform.

“I think it’s kinda cool how AIM is run and it’s very exciting to get the opportunity to win a new boat,” Cardinal said.  I’ve been watching as many videos as I can. It looks like it’s similar to waters I fish around home,” he said. That means, Poygan, another shallow lake.

“I’ve got a few ideas to see if I can find certain types of structure because I think the bigger fish will be on structure and that depth. The water they picked is not a common place. It’s a good idea. I don’t think anybody in this tournament has probably fished there this time of year.

“People who don’t fish shallow lakes think the whole lake is shallow, but people who fish shallow lakes know that shallow is deep water. You’ve got to look at it different.”

Todd and son Tyler Mueller are both from Appleton, and they’re prepared.

“I’ve got everything along that I’m going to need and we’re going to give it 110 percent,” Todd Mueller said. They’ll be arriving at the Fort Atkinson early Monday and will be in a Warrior 208 with Mercury 300 Verado power and Garmin in the electronics aboard. So, they’ve got the chance to put another Warrior in the garage.

“This is my first championship, and my son’s second, and it means the world to fish with him. When you get an opportunity to fish against 29 other boats with the possibility if winning a prize of this caliber it means quite a bit,” Mueller said.

“When we get there Monday we’ll have to look the lake over but you have the river coming and going out, and it depends on currents and how warm the water is. It’s a pretty fair playing field where nobody’s been on that water before Monday. It’s a pretty big body of water. It’s shallow so it will be an interesting tournament,” he continued.

“I’ve talked to people who’ve fished it and bought a map to figure out where the fish should be. It’s going to be a very warm week so the water’s going to warm way up. The lake is big enough to absorb 30 boats, so it’ll be an interesting tournament.”

Stay tuned to AIM’s Facebook site throughout the week for updates and previews of what’s coming to one lucky and skilled team Saturday evening. Learn how you can register for the next events at aimfishing.com.
