‘Tis The Season: Time To Sign Up, Gear Up, For

2019 AIM Weekend Walleye Series; Spots Going Fast

Single digit spots left at the Fox River and at Winneconne and in Oshkosh. Minnesota’s Mille Lacs? Full. The other three in Minnesota? Get in quick. And we’ve not even hit the first tourney of the season. If you think you’d better be signing up for the 2019 AIM Weekend Walleye Series (AWWS), you’d have it right.

“Sign up, sign up, sign up, and do it now. That’s the only advice I can give teams stuck in decide mode,” said AIM National Tournament Director Denny Fox. “Because if you wait even a few days, you’ve got a good chance you’re gonna be left at the dock while your buddies are trying to qualify for that new Warrior Boat/Yamaha four-strokeGarmin electronics grand prize at the Aim National Championship Shootout.”

That package worth more than $55 Large will be awarded to one team winning this year’s event, on the Missouri River at Bismarck-Mandan, North Dakota, May 31-June 1. The Shootout location for 2020, with that same Warrior Boat combo, will be announced later this year, and, it will go to one team that signs up this year.

“As of last Friday, in Wisconsin, we have only a few spots left in all four events. The first at the Fox River in Green Bay April 7, registration for that closes in less than a week. The second is at Winneconne April 28, hosted by Woodeyes Bar and Grill. The third event in Marinette on Green Bay, Hosted by the City of Marinette is on May 19, and the final qualifier of the season is in Oshkosh on June 23,” Fox said.

In Minnesota, the first event on the runoff-swollen Mississippi River in Hager City May 12, sponsored by The Bluffs Bar and Grill, and the last event July 28 on cove-filled Vermilion Lake, where the sponsor is Fortune Bay Resort Casino, still has openings.

The second event at Mille Lacs in Isle, MN, at McQuoid’s Inn June 9, has a wait list. The third tournament at Leech Lake July 7 and its Headquarters is luxurious Chase On The Lake.

North Dakota’s season begins May 12 on upper Lake Sakakawea at New Town, and is headquartered at 4 Bears Casino and Lodge. Both it and the Hager City meet are bound to be different experiences for even locals due to the amount of runoff, although the Lake Sak event less-so until snowmelt reaches that part of the river in June. The Shootout at Bismarck-Mandan below the monstrous Lake Sakakawea also could prove challenging for the same reason.

“Interest in our unique Catch-Record-Release™ tournaments continues to grow, and I fully expect most of our tourneys will be full or close to it at the season’s start. It was that way last year, and there’s no reason not to think it won’t be the same. So if you’re on the fence about entering, it’s time,” Fox added.

Later this week, read what the teams who’ve signed up will face in the opening AIM tournament of the year April 7 on Wisconsin’s Green Bay, at AIM’s Facebook site, or its website, aimfishing.com. Will it be like last year, when boats fought ice and freezing temps? Find out. That site is also where you’ll get the skinny on all AIM events for the year, including how to register for this year’s tournaments.

Good luck to all anglers, and here’s to another great AIM season! We’re ready, rarin’ and after the winter many of you have had, we know you are too!
