It’s Go Time! AIM Opening Day Only A Few Days Away
This is how the season starts. The 2022 opening day of the AIM Weekend Walleye Series is upon us, teams and Fan Nation.
“Sunday, April 3, is on my docket, and we’re fired up and ready for the season’s first Navionics Open on the Fox River and southern Bay of Green Bay at Green Bay,” said Denny Fox, AIM national tournament director. “A new season that will bring maybe a little snow for the first launch, maybe the first warmth of spring, who knows, but regardless our teams are ready to go and so am I. The field is nearly full, with 90-plus spots already taken. If you’re still on the edge, you’ve got until Wednesday the 30th at Midnight to register. 100 Boat Max and less than 5 spots left. Be there! You can’t win if you don’t get in!
“This is one of my favorite times to do what I do,” Fox added. “Winter’s officially over. Everybody’s itchy ready to launch after a hard water season of ice fishing, to maintaining and rigging new boats. It’s Go Time!”
“You’ve got a whole lot of water to choose from, teams. At last year’s event a few days earlier, this thing was won on the river, so my guess is more than a few boats will head there, but those big females could be anywhere, including the lower bay,” he said.
Fox is right on. You can bet they’ll be seeing who’s home on the Fox up to the De Pere dam, and also out into the bay out to around Little Tail Point/Brown County Line, and east to Dyckesville (check for the exact boundaries at aimfishing.com) the week prior. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been fishing here all week, took Friday off, or got on the water only on Saturday, the lower Fox or the bay where those spawners are will definitely be hungry.
All you need is the five right fish on your Catch-Record-Release™ card to come home with a $9,000 check (for a full field), and draw first blood for Yamaha Team Of The Year.
Oh yeah, that side pot cash too. Last year, side pot cash plus incentive money from AIM sponsors sent that winning team home with $13,000.
“That’s what could be at stake again,” Fox said. “In the next few weeks, we’ll highlight this year’s sponsors and what they’ll bring to the party, as well as some really cool developments from some that may just rock your boat and the angling world big time. We’ll also present a preview of what teams predict what they’ll find this spring just before each event.
“This is no time to snooze and there’s no time to lose. If you’re wondering if you’ve got what it takes to be an AIM team. You do. All it takes, really, is to get on the water. Stay tuned. The fun is just beginning.”
